19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hardcourt
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his first title for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.
Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a torrid season, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the US Open.
His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in specific - resulted in him falling of the top ten and finally separating with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.
Presently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the past month - peaking in a closely contested three-set triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.
This marks his first championship after the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt from spring of 2023.
The win also means he has secured 21 titles at twenty-one different events.
"For the first time I have attended a event with my children at once, so to secure a title is really nice," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my child her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his last six title deciders, comprising in that event earlier this year.
Medvedev's retrieving play style and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had led some to wonder if his skill to play at the highest level was concluded.
But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and perform assertively, reinforced by an improved serving game.
Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.
Both players traded break points in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his first ATP Tour championship, took control to create a third set.
Moutet saved four early-game opportunities in a close final set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to close out the victory.
Suitably, the winner earned the win with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
